Trump given FIFA green light to join World Cup winners in trophy lift
US president Donald Trump will be allowed to break protocol and hand the trophy directly to the winning captain, sources say.

US President Donald Trump has been given permission by FIFA to break standard World Cup presentation protocol and join the winning team in their trophy lift, sources have told talkSPORT.
Trump, who turned 80 on Sunday, is expected to attend the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19. He previously stayed on the podium during Chelsea's Club World Cup victory last July, handing the trophy directly to captain Reece James.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino initially tried to usher Trump away during that event but later encouraged him to stay. Sources say FIFA will leave it to Trump's discretion whether to remain with the executives or celebrate with the team.
Both Mexican and Canadian officials will be invited to the closing ceremony. The tournament has faced controversy over ticket prices, the expanded format, and the denial of entry to Somali referee Omar Artan.
