Max Holloway brings in former UFC champion Jack Della Maddalena for Conor McGregor camp
Holloway enlists welterweight standout to prepare for McGregor at UFC 329

Max Holloway has brought former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena into his training camp as he prepares to face Conor McGregor at UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas.
Holloway is moving up from lightweight to welterweight for the fight, which headlines the UFC's International Fight Week card at T-Mobile Arena. McGregor, returning after a five-year layoff, has fought three times at 170 pounds, including wins over Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone.
Camp details
Holloway announced Della Maddalena's involvement on his YouTube channel, calling the Australian an "animal" at 170 pounds. Della Maddalena, a natural southpaw like McGregor, is ranked No. 4 in the UFC welterweight division and previously held the title after defeating Belal Muhammad in May 2025.
- Della Maddalena lost his last bout via knockout to Carlos Prates in March
- Holloway's home gym is temporarily closed, so he is training at multiple facilities
- Performance dietician Tyler Minton said Holloway is consuming about 300g of carbohydrates per day to bulk up
- Holloway has fought 32 times in the UFC and held the featherweight title from 2017
What's next
The fight represents a major test for both men: McGregor seeks to end a five-year winless drought, while Holloway aims to rebound from a loss to Charles Oliveira in March. UFC 329 also features Paddy Pimblett vs. Benoit Saint Denis on the card.
