Crocker defends world title against Paro in Brisbane
Lewis Crocker makes his first IBF welterweight title defence against mandatory challenger Liam Paro in Australia.

Lewis Crocker will make the first defence of his IBF welterweight world title against mandatory challenger Liam Paro in Brisbane, Australia, on Wednesday. The 29-year-old Belfast fighter won the belt in his hometown last September by defeating Paddy Donovan in a rematch.
Paro, a former IBF light-welterweight champion, became the mandatory challenger after Paddy Donovan withdrew from a final eliminator in January. Australian promoter No Limit won the purse bid, edging out Crocker's promoter Matchroom by $27,000, securing the fight for Paro in his native Queensland.

What's at Stake
Crocker, who entered his title-winning fight as an underdog, adopts a similar mindset this week, acknowledging the home advantage for Paro. 'Paro is the odds-on favourite here and everyone is coming to see him,' Crocker said. 'It takes a bit of ease off my mind and I'm prepared.'
Paro, 30, impressed in his light-welterweight title win against Subriel Matias in 2024 but lost the belt to Richardson Hitchens months later. He now steps up to welterweight, where he earned a gruelling debut win over David Papot last September. Paro typically starts fast from his southpaw stance, though his stamina was tested in recent bouts.
The winner could be in line for lucrative fights against the likes of Conor Benn or Devin Haney, names Crocker was linked with before opting for the mandatory defence. Both fighters have much to prove in this crossroads bout.
