Catterall demands Romero fight or unification path
New WBA champion Jack Catterall eyes Rolando Romero or unification bouts after Giyasov win.

Jack Catterall says he is 'better than ever' after winning the vacant WBA 'regular' welterweight title last month in Egypt, where he defeated Shakhram Giyasov via unanimous decision. The British boxer now has his sights set on becoming a unified champion, starting with a potential fight against WBA 'super world champion' Rolando Romero.
Romero deadline and frustration
Romero has been given 180 days from May 23 to face Catterall, but reports suggest he may take an interim fight in August instead. Catterall expressed frustration but remains open to other options.
Catterall listed several possible opponents if the Romero fight does not materialize:
- Winner of Lewis Crocker vs. Liam Paro
- Conor Benn
- Devin Haney
- Ryan Garcia
- Rolando Romero
Catterall's career resurged after a controversial loss to Josh Taylor in 2022, winning seven of his next eight fights including a rematch victory over Taylor and the Giyasov win. He says he enjoys being the underdog and is confident in making and winning big fights.
