Tuchel rings the changes for England's third place play-off as Rice takes the armband
Declan Rice captains England against France in Miami with Harry Kane benched, as Thomas Tuchel makes seven changes and Dean Henderson makes his World Cup debut.

Thomas Tuchel has reshuffled heavily for England's World Cup third place play-off against France in Miami, making seven changes to his starting XI and leaving captain Harry Kane among the substitutes. With Kane on the bench, Declan Rice wears the armband from the start.
Only four players keep their places from the semi-final defeat: Rice, Marc Guehi, Djed Spence and Morgan Rogers. Dean Henderson comes in for his first World Cup appearance, while Ivan Toney earns a start in attack and Jarell Quansah returns at right-back after serving a two-match ban for his dismissal against Mexico.
How England line up
- Dean Henderson starts in goal, making his World Cup debut
- Jarell Quansah returns at right-back after a two-match suspension
- Ezri Konsa comes back into central defence alongside Marc Guehi
- Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford also start, with Morgan Rogers at No.10
- Harry Kane is among the substitutes, with Declan Rice captaining the side
Kobbie Mainoo is unavailable after straining his back in Friday's training session. The midfielder, a surprise inclusion in the squad, has not yet played a competitive minute at the tournament in North America.
Fall-out from the semi-final
England reached the play-off after losing 2-1 to Argentina in midweek. Anthony Gordon put them ahead early in the second half, but late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez turned the game and sent the 2022 winners through to Sunday's final against Spain, the 2010 champions.
Tuchel has faced criticism for his in-game adjustments, with England sitting deeper as Argentina pushed for an equaliser. The manager argued afterwards that his side became too passive and lost their grip on possession and duels, saying no structural change could have rescued the situation, and that dropping deeper was never the plan.
The France fixture offers England a chance to finish the tournament on a positive note before attention turns to the next cycle, while Tuchel's selection decisions will be scrutinised again once the match in Miami is done.
