South Africa run in seven tries in 43-0 win over Wales in Durban
Steve Tandy called Wales' 43-0 defeat by South Africa bitterly disappointing after a second successive scoreless meeting with the Springboks.

South Africa beat Wales 43-0 in Durban, scoring seven tries in a one-sided Nations Championship match. Wales have now failed to score in their last two meetings with the Springboks, conceding 116 points across those two games without reply.
Jasper Wiese, Cobus Reinach, Jesse Kriel, Jaco Williams, Herschel Jantjies, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Paul de Villiers all crossed for the world champions. The hosts were less ruthless than in the previous encounter, when they won 73-0 in November after running in 11 tries and handing Wales their heaviest home defeat.
Tandy downbeat after heavy loss
Wales head coach Steve Tandy said he was bitterly disappointed with the result, although he credited his players for staying in the contest for long spells against the world champions. He pointed to a lack of accuracy in the few attacking opportunities his side created, citing handling errors and an inability to convert pressure from a run of penalties into points.
Tandy also highlighted South Africa's physicality at the breakdown and their organisation in defence as significant obstacles. The defeat continues a difficult run for Tandy, who has now lost nine of his 12 Tests in charge of Wales.
Lake takes positives from performance
Wales captain Dewi Lake struck a more positive tone, saying he was proud of the effort his team produced despite the scoreline. He argued the display represented an improvement on the autumn meeting between the two sides, while acknowledging that the failure to score and the loss itself were unacceptable to the squad.
- South Africa won 43-0 in Durban, scoring seven tries
- Wales have not scored in their last two games against the Springboks, a combined 116-0
- The previous meeting ended 73-0 in November, Wales' heaviest home defeat
- Steve Tandy has lost nine of his 12 Tests as Wales head coach
- Captain Dewi Lake said he saw growth in the performance despite the result
Wales will return to camp needing to address both their attacking precision and their defence against powerful forward packs, with Tandy describing the task as one of continued improvement. South Africa, meanwhile, close out the season with another convincing home win.
