Tuchel makes seven England changes for France third-place play-off
Declan Rice wears the armband with Harry Kane benched as Thomas Tuchel reshuffles his England side for the World Cup third-place match against France in Miami.

Thomas Tuchel has changed seven of his England starting line-up for the World Cup third-place play-off against France in Miami. With captain Harry Kane named among the substitutes, Declan Rice will wear the armband from kick-off.
Only four players keep their places from the semi-final defeat: Rice, Marc Guehi, Djed Spence and Morgan Rogers. Rogers is expected to move into the No 10 role, with Eberechi Eze joining Rice in midfield and Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford coming into the wide areas.
There is a first World Cup start in goal for Dean Henderson, while Ivan Toney leads the line. Jarell Quansah returns at right-back after serving a two-match ban following his dismissal against Mexico, and Ezri Konsa comes back into central defence having been a substitute against Argentina.
England's line-up in Miami
- Dean Henderson starts in goal for his World Cup debut
- Declan Rice captains the side with Harry Kane on the bench
- Jarell Quansah returns from a two-match suspension at right-back
- Morgan Rogers moves into the No 10 role, with Eze and Rice in midfield
- Kobbie Mainoo misses out after a back strain in Friday training
Kobbie Mainoo is absent from the squad altogether after picking up a back strain in training on Friday. The midfielder had been a surprise inclusion in the tournament party but has not yet played a competitive minute for England in North America.
England reached the play-off after losing 2-1 to Argentina in the semi-finals, a match in which Anthony Gordon put them ahead early in the second half before late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez turned the game. Argentina will face Spain, the 2010 winners, in Sunday's final.
After that defeat Tuchel defended his approach, arguing the problem lay in England's response to Argentina's pressure rather than his own tactical changes. He said his side had become too passive, lost duels and dropped progressively deeper once the momentum shifted, adding that no structure could have compensated for that in the moment.
The play-off offers Tuchel a chance to end the campaign with a win and to assess squad depth ahead of the next international window, with several fringe players handed starting roles in Miami.
