World Matchplay 2026: Littler to Defend Title in Blackpool

World Matchplay champion Luke Littler will begin his title defence against Niko Springer when the tournament returns to Blackpool’s Winter Gardens from July 18-26, 2026. The teenage sensation captured the Phil Taylor Trophy last year with a comeback victory over James Wade.

Littler’s 18-13 win in the 2025 final saw him rally from 5-0 down, becoming the fifth player to complete the PDC’s Triple Crown. The 2026 edition features a boosted prize fund of £1 million, with the winner earning £225,000.

Title Defence and Key Matchups

The 32-player field includes 16 seeded players matched against the top 16 qualifiers from the one-year ProTour Rankings. Littler faces Springer in the first round, while 2024 champion Luke Humphries meets Cameron Menzies. Other notable contenders include Gian van Veen, James Wade, Josh Rock, Gerwyn Price, Michael van Gerwen, and Gary Anderson.
