Rangers in Transfer Talks with Leicester Over Mavididi and Souttar
Rangers hold discussions with Leicester City as both clubs eye potential swap deal involving Stephy Mavididi and John Souttar.

Rangers have opened talks with Leicester City over a potential deal for winger Stephy Mavididi as the Ibrox club look to strengthen their attacking options this summer.
The 28-year-old former Arsenal academy graduate has been a target for Rangers, with Leicester open to discussions. At the same time, the Foxes are considering a move for Rangers centre-half John Souttar, 29, who has also attracted interest from several Championship clubs.
Potential swap or separate deals?
While the two clubs have held talks, it remains unclear whether the discussions involve a direct swap or separate transactions. Rangers are eager to add Mavididi's pace and creativity, while Leicester are looking to bolster their defence after winning promotion to the Premier League.
Souttar, a Scotland international, has been a key figure for Rangers but could be allowed to leave if a suitable offer arrives. Rangers are also facing challenges in other transfer pursuits.
Other Rangers transfer activity
- Rangers fear they will be priced out of re-signing loanee Vaclav Cerny, with Besiktas demanding high wages (£45k/week) and not willing to sell.
- Cardiff City had a £5.5m bid rejected for Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, with Rangers still in talks and the Norwegian club seeking at least £6.8m plus add-ons.
- Rangers have revived interest in AEK Athens left-back James Penrice, a former Hearts player who was linked in January.
- Livingston have given a trial to former Rangers winger Kai Kennedy after his departure from Queen of the South.
The Gers are also monitoring other markets, with interest in Utrecht forward Adrian Blake and a potential move for goalkeeper Tjark Ernst falling through as Feyenoord triggered his release clause.
What's next?
With the transfer window still open, Rangers are expected to continue negotiations with Leicester and other clubs. The futures of Mavididi and Souttar could be resolved in the coming weeks as both sides aim to finalize their squads for the new season.
