Neymar returns for Brazil in World Cup win over Scotland
Neymar made his Brazil comeback after nearly three years, playing 20 minutes in a 3-0 World Cup win over Scotland.

Neymar made his long-awaited return to international football on Wednesday, coming off the bench to play 20 minutes as Brazil defeated Scotland 3-0 in their World Cup Group C match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The 34-year-old forward had not appeared for Brazil since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in a World Cup qualifier in October 2023. His recovery sidelined him for over 18 months, raising questions about his future with the national team.
Goals from Vinicius Junior (two) and Matheus Cunha had already put Brazil in control before Neymar replaced Cunha in the 76th minute. The crowd, which had chanted his name throughout the match, erupted as he stepped onto the pitch.
A measured return
Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed after the match that Neymar had earned his minutes through hard work in training. "He trained and worked hard to recover with professionalism," Ancelotti said. "He can help the team with his qualities."
- Neymar's last Brazil appearance came in October 2023 before the ACL injury.
- He played 20 minutes, recording 24 touches and one shot on target.
- Brazil's victory moves them to the top of Group C with two wins from two.
- Scotland face elimination after suffering their second consecutive defeat.
- Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading men's scorer with 79 goals.
Brazil will now look to secure top spot in their final group match, while Scotland must win their last game and hope other results go their way to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
