Kimi Antonelli admits he still has questions to answer despite dominant start
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli says he still has a lot to prove despite a 66-point lead after six races.

Kimi Antonelli has built a commanding 66-point lead in the Formula 1 championship after winning five of the first six races this season, but the 19-year-old Italian insists he still has much to prove.
Speaking ahead of this weekend's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver said he is focused on pushing himself further and discovering his full potential. 'There are questions that still need to be answered on my side — how much further I can go in a short period of time, how much I can push myself even further and how much I can grow,' Antonelli said.
Growth through adversity
Antonelli acknowledged that a difficult mid-season slump during his rookie year in 2024, when he struggled for pace and suffered several incidents, ultimately helped him mature. 'Considering how bad it was in the moment, I am very grateful it happened because it made me grow a lot,' he said. He finished seventh in the championship last year, 169 points behind teammate George Russell.
This season, the tables have turned. Antonelli leads Russell by 68 points, and has outqualified the Briton 5-4 with an average advantage of 0.110 seconds. Russell, who won the season-opening race, has endured a string of misfortune, including a botched pit stop in Monaco that led to a penalty.
Antonelli credits his improvement to a year of experience in Formula 1. 'You become more aware of your potential and you know better the team — it's all little things that play a massive role,' he said.
The Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix takes place this weekend, with Antonelli aiming to extend his championship lead over Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who sits second in the standings.
