James Coles earns maiden England call-up for India T20 series
Sussex all-rounder James Coles receives first England senior call-up for upcoming T20I series against India.

England have named 21-year-old Sussex all-rounder James Coles in their 17-man squad for the upcoming T20I series against India, marking his first senior international call-up.
Coles, who made his first-class debut for Sussex at just 16 years and 157 days — the youngest in the county's history — was the most expensive player in The Hundred auction this year, signed by London Spirit for £390,000. His consistent performances for England Lions and in T20 leagues worldwide earned him the selection.
The squad also sees recalls for wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox, fast bowler Sonny Baker, and seamer Saqib Mahmood, all of whom were omitted from the 2026 T20 World Cup squad in February. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton are unavailable due to injuries.
What the selector said
England men's national selector Marcus North commented: "James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here and abroad during the past 12 months." North added that the larger squad provides flexibility, as the series begins shortly after the Test series against New Zealand concludes.
- James Coles (Sussex) – first senior call-up, all-rounder
- Sonny Baker (Hampshire), Jordan Cox (Essex), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire) – recalled
- Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton ruled out through injury
- Harry Brook (Yorkshire) will captain the side
The five-match T20I series against India begins on July 1, with all matches broadcast live on Sky Sports. England will look to build momentum ahead of future ICC events with a blend of youth and experienced campaigners.
