Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell Learn Euro Draw Opponents
Three Scottish clubs discover their paths in Champions League and Conference League qualifying.

Hearts, Hibernian and Motherwell will learn their European qualifying opponents when draws for the Champions League and Conference League take place on Wednesday. Hearts enter the Champions League second qualifying round for the first time in 20 years, while Hibs and Motherwell are in the Conference League second qualifying round.
Hearts, who finished second in the Scottish Premiership, will face either Turkish side Fenerbahce or Austrian club Sturm Graz in the League Path of the Champions League draw. The first leg is scheduled for 21 or 22 July, with the return leg the following week. A victory would set up a third-round tie against one of several seeded or unseeded opponents depending on the outcome.
What the draws reveal
The Conference League draw for Hibernian and Motherwell is more complex due to numerous potential pairings. Both clubs are unseeded and could face a range of opponents, including Dutch side Ajax, who dropped into the competition after losing the Europa League final, or other strong teams from across Europe.
- Hearts will play either Fenerbahce or Sturm Graz in the Champions League second qualifying round.
- Hibernian and Motherwell are in the Conference League second qualifying round draw, with first legs on 21 July.
- Rangers enter later, in the Europa League third qualifying round, and will be seeded.
- The draws take place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, starting at 11:00 BST for the Champions League.
Should Hearts lose their Champions League tie, they will drop into the Europa League third qualifying round, where they would be unseeded. Meanwhile, Rangers, who will be seeded when they enter at the same stage, could face Hearts if both progress through their respective ties.
The draws also have implications for multi-club ownership rules, as Hearts and Union Saint-Gilloise are both partially owned by Tony Bloom. If Hearts defeat Fenerbahce and face Union in the next round, the clubs must comply with Uefa regulations that limit ownership stakes to under 30%.
