Bristol City vs Walsall Carabao Cup tie moved due to balloon fiesta clash
Bristol City's Carabao Cup first-round match with Walsall has been brought forward 24 hours to avoid the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

Bristol City have confirmed that their Carabao Cup first-round tie against Walsall will now be played on Thursday, August 6, instead of Friday, August 7. The move was made to avoid a clash with the opening night of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which is expected to draw more than 500,000 visitors over the weekend.
The annual hot-air balloon event takes place at Ashton Court Estate, just over two miles from Bristol City's Ashton Gate stadium. Following discussions with multiple stakeholders, the club decided to shift the kick-off to 7:45pm on the Thursday evening to ease travel disruption for supporters and allow them to attend both events.
In a club statement, Bristol City apologised for any inconvenience caused by the date change and confirmed that all tickets already purchased for the original fixture remain valid for the new date. Walsall also issued an apology to their travelling fans, noting that the change was outside the club's control.
What happened
The Carabao Cup first-round tie was originally scheduled for Friday, August 7, but was brought forward after local authorities advised that the fixture could not be staged over the weekend due to the balloon fiesta's expected impact on travel and traffic. The Robins and the Saddlers will now meet 24 hours earlier than first planned.
Both clubs are preparing for the new season under new managers. Bristol City recently appointed Martin Skubala from League One side Lincoln City, while Walsall will be led by Lee Grant, who is beginning his second managerial role. The cup tie will be the first competitive outing for both coaches.
