Amad Diallo's Late Strike Lifts Ivory Coast Over Ecuador in World Cup
Manchester United's Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 win over Ecuador in their World Cup opener.

A dramatic late goal from Manchester United forward Amad Diallo secured a 1-0 victory for Ivory Coast over Ecuador in their opening Group stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia.
Ecuador dominated much of the first half, hitting the woodwork twice through John Yeboah and Alan Minda, while Enner Valencia also wasted a clear chance. Ivory Coast's Yan Diomande was a constant threat on the right flank but they failed to convert.
In the second half, both teams continued to attack. Elye Wahi hit the crossbar for Ivory Coast, while Ecuador's Gonzalo Plata drew a save from Yahia Fofana. With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute after a run from Wilfried Singo.
The result gives Ivory Coast three points in the group, while Ecuador remain without a point. Both teams will look to improve in their next fixtures.
